Primary Engineer Leaders Award

AT Engine Controls Managing Director and Technical Director Support: Primary Engineer LEADERS AWARD Greater Manchester 2017, 6th July Queen Elizabeth Hall, Oldham

What is Primary Engineer?

The aim of Primary Engineer is to develop the skills and confidence in teachers first and then extend from this secure foundation. The programmes are whole-class focused, including learners of all abilities. Throughout the process the aim is to link engineers to the school so that they can help and advise, becoming the pupil’s classroom engineer.

The Primary Engineer and Secondary Engineer Leaders Award gives pupils across Greater Manchester the opportunity to engage with engineers who can convey the importance of STEM subjects in their daily lives.

The Challenge this year was for the pupils to research engineering, interview engineers and interpret the question:

“If you were an Engineer in Greater Manchester – what would you do?”

The evening was attended by over 25 children being awarded as highly commended or as winners in their age groups – there were a lot of very proud parents and teachers in the room!

If manufacturing and engineering wants to resolve its staff recruitment issues then we must all get involved with organisations like Primary and Secondary Engineer to motivate and inspire the younger generations.
